Case 01 — The Zine-Margin Cipher
Found in a proof copy of a GRUNGEzhou Libellus zine, annotating the freight-yard spread. Blue ink. The handwriting is Reginald's — the horse annotates everything, usually to complain. This one he never explained.
Cats don't get headstones, kid.
Here the trains died, rusting where they stood.
Ashes of ash, dust of dust, and nobody claims either.
Iron sleepers keep the ledger of everything the city buried.
Rain did the crying; the rest of us just stood there.
Meow's the only name the fence ever learned.
A rusted fence keeps the watch nobody volunteered for.
Nobody visits. Nobody should.
Moss over the rails. Weeds through the gravel.
Empty bottles, folded maps, one unmarked grave.
One grave. No name on it. Names are for the living.
Walk past it daily, kid. Everybody does.
The question: the freight-yard spread shows a grave. Whose? Name who — or what — the note is naming.
Hint: Reginald narrates out loud. He hides things in the quiet parts — read the first breath of every line.

Read the first letter of each sentence, top to bottom: C — Cats don't get headstones, kid. H — Here the trains died… A — Ashes of ash… I — Iron sleepers… R — Rain did the crying… M — Meow's the only name… A — A rusted fence… N — Nobody visits… M — Moss over the rails… E — Empty bottles… O — One grave… W — Walk past it daily… **C-H-A-I-R-M-A-N-M-E-O-W.** Cross-check it against the [Libeu page](/universe/libeu/): Chairman Meow's grave sits under a rusted fence in the freight yard — and the note says *"A rusted fence keeps the watch nobody volunteered for."* **Answer: Chairman Meow** — the orange cat, the Supreme Being's emissary, whose death in a rain-soaked gutter set the covenant in motion.Submit your theory
